Hargeisa – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, Abdirahman Dahir Aden, clarified that the government is not consulting with China or any other party regarding its relations with Taiwan. In an interview with the BBC, he described the partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan as a cooperative relationship grounded in mutual interests. He emphasized that this collaboration does not undermine the interests of the People’s Republic of China, nor does Somaliland seek approval from China or any other entity for the partnerships it forms.
The Minister highlighted that every country establishes diplomatic ties based on its own national interests and priorities. “I have yet to see a country consult another about whom it should engage with. China does not seek our advice on its partnerships, and similarly, we do not seek guidance from anyone regarding our relations,” he stated.
