The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland Hon. Dr Issa Kayd has refuted the allegations that there was any private conversation between the President of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, and the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud in Djibouti.
He underpinned the fact that the delegation led by the President of Somaliland following an invitation by Djibouti was as per culturally traditional etiquette and had nothing to do with politics.
“We went to the Republic of Djibouti with an official invitation from the President of Djibouti H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh, and we attended a traditional wedding ceremony”, said the minister.
He continued, “Wedding ceremonies and funerals are traditional customary events that can bring together adversaries to a cordial social setting hence Djibouti and Somaliland are brothers and sisters who honoured the occasion”.
“it did not concern politics at all”, he underpinned.
Hon. Issa Keyd dispelled the rumour mongering fake news circulated in the social media that insinuated the President had a special meeting with his Somalia counterpart who also attended the Djibouti event.
He termed the assumptions in the social media as merely baseless rumours and without verification.
The minister was similarly categorical that issues concerning the stalled Somaliland-Somalia Talks were never brought up at all.
On the other hand, he pointed out that consultations within the nation is a reserve of Somaliland alone and that the country is a nation that is in control of its own affairs.
Saying that no one else can interfere with our sovereignty nor arm-twist the nation at all.
He said, “This country belongs to us and not for the international community”, and added, “we will hold the elections according to the stipulated laws; the country is administered from within and not from without”.
