Somaliland Non-state Actors Forum (SONSAF) on Sunday organized two days training for the first level of 48 Domestic Election Observers TOT’s tasked with the preparation towards the training and deployment of non-partisan observers for the upcoming 2021 parliamentary and local council elections.
The objective of the two days training is to prepare and equip Regional Coordinators to manage the Election-Day observation activities in their respective regions, and with the necessary skills to organize training for 800 observers in respect of Election-Day observation activities.
Mr. Anwar Abdurrahman, the Chairperson of Somaliland Non-state Actors Forum (SONSAF) speaking during the opening of the two days training reminded the first level of 48 Domestic Election Observers TOT’s on the importance of their work in contributing to election integrity and the legal framework for election observation.
“The credibility of the election outcomes is critical and we understands that this desired outcome can only be made possible the Domestic Election Observers TOT’s play their mandated roles with unwavering diligence,” he added.
The Chairperson of Somaliland Non-state Actors Forum (SONSAF) advised the 48 Domestic Election Observers TOT’s to make use of the knowledge garnered during the two days training since they will be tasked to recruit, train and deploy constituency supervisors for all constituencies and to supervise constituency supervisors to recruit, train and deploy independent and non-partisan Election-Day observers.
Mr. Hassan Shukri, head of SONSAF projects department speaking during the occasion briefed the participants on the two days training schedule that will include familiarization of the Somaliland electoral laws, the observer’s code of conduct and the usage of mobile apps to deter mistakes.
