After organising our very first event in 2015, Somaliland professionals brought together many young and talented Somaliland professionals in the UK, igniting conversation and introducing professionals. This event previously endorsed by Dr Edna Adan proved to be a success.  We are back to deliver yet another insightful evening. Join us for our exclusive gathering to celebrate Somaliland’s 25th anniversary. Celebrate our history and discuss our future.

 

As we are all aware, the Tahriib crises is dangerously high and we are losing our youth to the shores of Europe. There are catastrophic story we are hearing every day. We would like to dedicate some time during our up and coming Networking event to discuss how Somaliland can attain economic prosperity and increase job creation for its youth. ‘HOW DO WE SAVE OUR YOUTH?’

Speakers

Ms Farah Hassan:

Is an Educator, Community activist With a social science and development studies foundation degree and is the founder of Somaliland Professionals which is an organisation that aims to bring together Somaliland professionals from all backgrounds who can collectively work together instigating grass root change for the advancement of our country.

Nimo-ilhan Ali

Is a PhD candidate at SOAS University of London. Her current research interests include: the expansion of higher education sector in Somaliland and the employment outcomes of graduates. She has also been studying the ‘tahriib’ (youth emigration) phenomenon in both Somaliland and Puntland and is currently writing a report on the topic. She will be speaking about the Tahriib and here experience in Somaliland during her research.

BASHIR ALI:

An economics and MSc public policy graduate from the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), Bashir is currently an Analyst in emerging markets based in London. Having visited Somaliland numerous times, Bashir is fascinated with the economic potential of Somaliland as well as the role of the second-wave global Somaliland Diaspora (those who have grown up outside of Somaliland) and he will be discussing their role in the economic, political and institutional development of the Republic.

This will be followed by our networking section.

This is STRICTLY for motivated Somalilanders based in the UK who are looking to network and meet like-minded people who also want to impact positive change in Somaliland. This is the PERFECT opportunity to expand your professional network, and increase your involvement Somaliland’s Future. We will bring together likeminded individuals and professionals to share their knowledge, skills and experience with members of the Somaliland diaspora in the United Kingdom.
