Hargeisa-Somaliland Ministry of Mineral and Energy has banned with immediate effect the importation of equipment relating to the prospecting of minerals and hydrocarbons (Petroleum) by geological, geophysical, Photo –geological surveys that includes any remote sensing technique.
In a Ministerial directive issued by the office of Minister of Minerals and Enengy Hon. Jama Egal, states that , as in accordance with the mission of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals is to establish, direct and promote the sustainable utilization of Somaliland’s energy, minerals and petroleum resources to support the country’s social and economic development through the development and implementation of policies, strategies and programs that guide, facilitate and coordinate the work of government and all other stakeholders in the energy, minerals and petroleum sectors.
The Above ministerial statement states as follows :-
1. MoEM bans and shall prevent the entry into the country of the unregistered equipment, that has not approved by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
2. Any minerals mined locally and in possession of private entities or as such associated, must be declared or registered with ministry mineral resources within a period 30 days.
3. From the end of the 30th day of the 21st of November, 2018 the unregistered equipment will be confiscated and any persons/entity in possession of such equipment will be subject to legal action. “
