Somaliland and Ethiopia officials have concluded a two day joint conference in which they discussed the cross border issues and enhancing security partnership was held in the town of Gabiley, in Gabiley region.
The Joint conference brought together the Security officials and regional administrators of Gabiley, Hawd and Maroodi Jeh regions of Somaliland and their counterparts from Faafan, Jaraar and Somali administered region of Ethiopia.
Somaliland and Ethiopian sides during the two days joint conference discussed matters regarding strengthen the security partnership and cross border movement of people and goods through the borders of the two nations.
The Mayor of Gabiley town speaking to the media said, “We have agreed to work together in a bid to deal with those threatening the security of both nation and issues concerning cross border movement.
“The relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia is based on people to people relationship and the free movement of people and trade as well as safe guarding and securing the security of the two countries must be priority number one for both countries. It must be enhanced and maintained all the time,” he added.
The Governor of Faafan region of Ethiopia speaking to the press said “During our meeting today the Ethiopian delegation, we reaffirmed the commitment to a strong and historic friendship with Somaliland and the strength of this feeling with Somaliland should not be underestimated”, he added.
“Both nations are committed to enhance existing cooperation on matters regarding security and Border. Somaliland and Ethiopian brotherly relations must persist and live longer forever, for the interest of both countries, for the horn of Africa to heel and for the region to prosper”, he said.
The Deputy Mayor of Hargeisa speaking during the occasion said, “Ethiopia has been and will be a good Friend of Somaliland and the two countries have a very close relationship, and promised not only to maintain prevalent existing bilateral relations but to strengthen them in the Future.
