Somaliland Development Fund Secretariat (SDF) officials today handed over 12 vehicles which shall be divided between four ministries and Roads Authority Agency during a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of National Planning and Rural Development headquarters.
Hon Ali Ismail Hussein (Shombe) Minister of National Planning and Rural Development flanked by Minister of Health, Mr. Saleeban Essa Ahmed, and the Minister of Education, Mr. Abdillahi Ibrahim Habbane, the Chairman of the National Plaining commission and representatives of the various ministries were present during the handing over ceremony.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Hon Ali Ismail Hussein (Shombe), Minister of Planning and National Development, a member of the committee that runs the SDF said, “I would like to thank SDF for the continued support in improving and better resourced core state functions for the people of Somaliland. The vehicles will improve the services provided by government ministries to the nation.
Mr. Michael Thyge Poulsen (DANIDA), representing SDF Donors said, “The donated vehicles will help the ministerial projects heads to commute to and fro to regional offices where most of the work is to take place and as you know transport can sometimes hinder progress so in order to speed up there work the Somaliland Development Fund has provided these vehicles. I hope the Deployment of the two Ambulances shall result to improved access to health care services for the people of Sool and Sanaag regions.
They 12 vehicles were distributed as follows: –
- Ministry of Health – 5 Vehicles, which includes 2 Ambulances, 1 each for Erigavo and Las Anod regional Hospitals.
- Ministry of Education and Higher learning– 3 Vehicles
- Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources– 2 Vehicles
- Ministry of Agriculture– 1 Vehicle
- Roads Authority Agency – 1 Vehicle
The SDF purchased the 12 vehicles from Toyota Marill – Djibouti, in the presence of the National Tender Board and Ministerial officials and in accordance with the overall policy, procedures and guidance required to manage the procurement activities of the Somaliland Development Fund.
The Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) is designed to support the Government of Somaliland (GoSL) to fill a critical gap through funding projects that are fully aligned to the National Development Plan (NDP) 2012-2016, while at the same time recognizing the role of GoSL in the delivery of basic services.The funding for the SDF is provided by DFID, DANIDA, Norway and the Netherlands.
