Burao-Ministry of Environment and Rural development officials and police in Togdheer region have confiscated a couple of dozen sacks containing fake Frankincense, Myrrh and other forest products from people purporting to be traders.
Mr. Abdullah Hussein Jama , the Ministry of Environment and Rural development coordinator for Togdheer region speaking to reporters said, “We have confiscated and destroyed a couple of dozen sacks containing fake Frankincense, Myrrh and other forest products from unscrupulous traders who are being currently held in custody by Burao police awaiting to be arraigned in a court.
“It has become a norm for unscrupulous traders to mix the bark Boswellia Certeri and Boswellia Frereana and Myrrh products and barks from other trees such as sugar cane in a bid to sell them to unsuspecting buyers as Frankincense, Myrrh and other forest products, this must stop “, Mr. Abdullah Hussein Jama stated.
Mr. Abdullah Hussein Jama added, “All Frankincense, Myrrh and other forest products originating from Sanaag or Guban district in Togdheer region must brought to the Ministry of Environment and Rural development regional offices for checking.
The commanding officer in charge of Police in Togdheer region Major Abdi Muse Abdi also present at the press conference said, “I would like to use this opportunity to warn all those unscrupulous traders that were are vigilant and our officers are under orders to check every vehicle transporting such product and let me remind you anyone caught dealing in fake products shall face the full wrath of the law.
