The Mayor of Hargeisa Cllr. Abdurrahman Mahmoud Aideed (SOLTECO) urged city residents not to erect illegal structures which block roads making accessibility impossible while speaking to traders who lost property due to a fierce fire that destroyed two premises located in the sprawling Waheen market on Thursday night.
The Mayor of Hargeisa city speaking during a press conference held at the Mayors Parlour praised the newly established Hargeisa Fire brigade for their quick response in putting out the fire which broke out on 2:00 pm Friday night razing two business premises destroying property worth $30,000 in the overcrowded market.
“It’s important that you (Traders) to open a secondary access point or road to the market so that traffic could go through in case of any emergencies which may arise but congestion caused by the erection of illegal structures makes this almost impossible that’s why you should clear areas around access points so as to make them accessible in case of a fire”, he said.
The Mayor of Hargeisa added, “City authorities are in the process of acquiring and import solar powered traffic lights which we hope to arrive in the country on the 25th of Feb, 2015 and more traffic signs. We began as on Friday, deploying and installing traffic signs in all major roads in the city meant notify motorists of regulations meant provide warning to potential hazards on or near city roadway’s, and provide needed guidance to destinations. Signs ensure that each driver is aware of the rules and hazards of the road.
Lastly the Mayor displayed newly acquired 500 garbage bins to be distributed within the city center.
