The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir today chaired a high level inter-ministerial meeting to discuss and find ways to cut country reliance on overseas labor and to curb the high levels of unemployment boost citizens’ wages.
Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir speaking during the meeting stated, “The new measures will cut dependence on foreign workers and also as a measure which will stimulate job creation for locals hence curbing the rising unemployment in the country along with greater social spending to help lower-income Somalilanders this follow a series of government efforts to address the pressing issue in recent years.
“Somaliland must do more to achieve economic growth “that is driven by sustained productivity improvement and also enhance manpower growth,” The Social and Labor Minister said.
Somaliland authorities will also consider ways to lower the maximum ratio of foreign employees to citizens for some companies, and toughen work-visa requirements for foreign midskilled workers, professionals and managers.
Also present during todays were the Minister of Commerce and International Cooperation Dr. Muse Qassim , the head of Somaliland Immigration Services Colonel Mohamed Ahmed Yusuf , Deputy Minister of Social Services and Labor , Deputy Minister of National Planning , Deputy Minister of Interior and the Director General in the Ministry of Social Services and Labor.
