Somaliland Deputy Minister of Foreign affairs and International cooperation Hon Mualid Mahmoud Ibrahim flanked by Somaliland representative to Belgium Hon Mahmoud Abdi Dacar meet with Ms. Isaballe Arran head of research department and Ms. Amelia Branckzik director of research at the international crisis group ICG in Brussels.
During the meeting the Somaliland Deputy FM highlighted the constructive role that Somaliland plays on issues such as counter-piracy, anti-terrorism, regional peace and security as well as its democratic credentials as proof of the Somaliland government’s credibility as a cooperative and independent international actor.
The deputy FM briefed the ICG officials on matters pertaining the country’s democratization process, the upcoming elections schedule, the stalled Somaliland and Somalia talks.
Hon Maulid informed the ICG officials of Somaliland long and difficult transition from a traditional, clan-based political system to a stable multi-party democracy in Somaliland, we have held at least five elections which have all been peaceful, democratic, and free.
In a similar meeting ,Somaliland Deputy Minister of Foreign affairs and International cooperation Hon Mualid Mahmoud Ibrahim flanked by Ms. Rooda Jama Elmi, Somaliland representative to Sweden meet with the head of African Affairs in the Swedish ministry of Foreign affairs Mr. Per Lindgrade and his deputy Ms. Jenny Ohissan in Stockholm.
During the meeting with the Swedish officials Somaliland deputy FM requested them Sweidish support in contributing to the Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) donors support Somaliland’s development goals with the current donors of the fund include DANIDA, DFID, Norway Netherlands and Germany expected to join soon.
