The long running leadership dispute among top UCID party members took another turn today after the case was for the first time brought up for mentioning before the Somaliland Political Party Registration and Verification Committee-PPR&VC , nearly two months after the submission of a case against Party leader Eng. Feisal Ali Warabe forwarded to the committee by party presidential candidate Hon Jamal Ali Hussein camp.
The lawyers of both Mr. Jamal Ali Hussein and the Jamal’s faction and on the other, Mr. Feisal Ali Waraabe and the Feisal’s faction presented their respective arguments before the packed court.
The leadership struggle came to a head-on confrontation,after the party chairman Hon Feisal Ali Waraabe openly reneged on all agreements with members of new UCID camp, including the Presidential aspirant Hon Jamal Ali Hussein, Mujahid Ali Gurey and ex-UCID member VP hopeful Abdirashid Matan.
A long war of words ensued since the dispute broke out involving the wrangling faction’s senior members which eventually culminated into the action which has now been enrolled for hearing in the Court.
The next Presidential and Parliamentary elections is scheduled to be held in April, 2017. All political parties, including UCID, need to position and organise themselves in order to properly campaign and contest the election but this won’t be possible if the current case drags and also means it may even as well jeopardize the upcoming electoral process.
The crux of the matter concerns the leadership of UCID. It is regrettable that the leadership rift and internal strife cannot be resolved within the party’s structure having regard to the party constitutional principles.
