The vice-president of Somaliland H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismael Sayli’i who is also the chairman of national committee of drought relief flanked by other committee members held a closed door meeting with top officials of UN organizations based in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
The agenda of their discussion pertained the perennial drought that has ravaged most of the country. They brainstormed on ways and means to support and coordinate emergency drought relief to affected regions.
They agreed to double the emergency humanitarian assistance to the famine-stricken people. The discussion also touched on the coordination of emergency humanitarian aid to affected areas.
The vice-president meeting with the UN officials comes at a time when drought has uprooted many families from their homes. Most families have lost their livelihood, following the loss of their livestock in the drought. The famine has been felt in all regions of Somaliland.
