The Vice President H.E. Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail (Saili’i) officially launched the data collection of the city plan of the country’s capital Hargeisa, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Public Works, Land and Housing.
This highly organized event was attended by government ministers, directors general, mayors of some cities in the country and several dignitaries.
The Minister of Public Works and Land and Housing Hon. Abdullahi Abokor Osman and his Deputy Hon. Mohamud Warsame Jama who first spoke on the occasion said that the Ministry of Public Works is starting to collect information on the city plan, which they said should be adhered to according to the guidelines.
They pointed out that upon the completion of the Master Plan, known as NUPS, the city would have its planning similar to other reputed capitals of the world. They added that the master plan will have its design followed for the next two decades.
The Mayor of Hargeisa Cllr. Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge explained that his office requested the ministry to chart the master plan for them and that they were thankful that it was being executed.
Lady Edna Aden Ismail who also spoke on the occasion indicated that it was a triumph for the nation to make an urban plan for the capital of the country.
The Minister of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Development Hon. Said Sulub Mohamed observed that the public works planning office was established 12 years ago and since then they have done a very good job. He congratulated the ministry for this fete that they have achieved.
Interior Minister Hon. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed cautioned that the people of Hargeisa should not counter the plan given that the feasibility plans for the seven grade A cities and five of grade B has already been done.
Finally, the VP Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail who launched the event noted the importance and need for the city to have a new comprehensive master plan adding that the government stands by the implementation of the design.
He congratulated the Ministry of Public Works for initiating the master plan.
