Today the president of Somaliland has officially launched Somaliland National College of Teacher Training at Hargeisa. Officials from the ministry of education and Science, EU, Save the Children and other education partners attended the grand opening ceremony.
On his keynote speech, the Director General of the Ministry of Education and Science thanked the EU, GPE Save the Children and all other partners who helped the ministry to establish. The DG appreciated the ongoing support of those partners.
“Thanks to Save the Children for playing a huge role in the construction of the Somaliland College of Teacher Education,” said Ahmed Abokor, DG of the Ministry of education and Science.
Minister of Education Hon. Osman Adan explained the importance of this college for the teachers and for the nation as well. Minister Osman also stated that they are planning to add the college a boarding facility in the near future.
The president of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi finally took the stage and congratulated the ministry of education especially the teachers. The president mentioned that teachers are those who create the society and encouraged them to continue their tireless work.
With Funds from EU and GPE Save the Children hugely contributed in both the construction and furnishing of the Teachers College. This is the first government-owned Teacher Education college that Somaliland has established.
Save the Children is the biggest education partner of Somaliland’s Ministry of Education & Science.
