The President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi met with officials from the UK’s international development office – DfID, Trademark East Africa, and the UK Representative office in Somaliland.
Among the issues discussed during the meeting was the acceleration of the construction of the Berbera Corridor, which will connect the Tog-wajale and Berbera trade routes, along with the construction of the Hargeisa Bypass. Future collaborations, including the development of business infrastructure, were also discussed.
The meeting also discussed issues such as the development of major customs at the country’s borders, to facilitate cross-border trade in the Horn of Africa and other investment opportunities related to trade development and infrastructure.
TMEA has not yet included Somaliland among the countries it is involved in under its ‘Where we work’. Presently, there are only Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
The President was accompanied by the Ministers of Planning and National Development, Hon. Omar Ali Abdillahi Bade, Transport and Road Development, Hon. Abdirizak Ibrahim Mohamed Atash, Trade and Tourism, Hon. Mohamud Hassan Sa’ad (Saajin).
The visiting delegation includes Mr. Frank Matsaert, Mr. Dominic McVey, Mr.Damon Bristow, Mr. Chris Loughran, Mr. Stuart Brown, Mr. Abdi Osman, and Mr. Cris Pym.
