Hargeisa – The President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi sent a congratulatory message to the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mary Elizabeth Truss (Liz Truss), who won the vote of her Conservative Party on Monday this week, and will take over from Boris Johnson.
Ms. Liz Truss, 47 years old, was born in Oxford and studied at the University of Oxford.
The Head of State sent the congratulatory statement on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday, lauding Liz Truss for having been propelled to the leadership of her party and the country’s government.
“I congratulate Liz Truss who has been elected leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” the President said in his message.
H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi made the new prime minister aware of the friendship and cooperation between Somaliland and the UK and the expectation of its leadership to continue to improve.
The president said, “I am very hopeful that the cooperation and friendship between Somaliland and Britain will be deeper during your leadership.”
The United Kingdom has a relationship with Somaliland that dates back almost two centuries, based on the political and security aspects, and is in the forefront of the countries that support the cause of the independence of the Republic of Somaliland.
In fact the country won its independence from the UK on the 26 of June 1960.
Liz Truss will be the country’s second premier post Brexit, and the fourth one since the UK voted to leave the European Union.
