Nagaad Women Coalition has today issued a statement announcing that women are warning that the upcoming elections parliamentary and local government elections should be held with the inclusion of the laws which have been removed national women’s quotas law of the Republic of Somaliland.

The executive director of Nagaad, Ms. Nafisa Yusuf Mohamed, today (Wednesday, 08 July 2020), read the declaration that calls upon the President of the Republic of H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, the National Assembly, the three National parties and the National Electoral Commission to approve the quotas law for women and minorities communities already endorsed by President and Council of Minister

“Today (Wednesday), 08 July 2020, the women of the Republic of Somaliland have issued a call to the President of the Republic of Somaliland, the two Houses of the Republic of Somaliland and the three national parties of Somaliland and the National Electoral Commission of Somaliland. We are requesting that the women and minorities quotas to be included in the electoral law and be given special consideration.

“We are also hearing these days that there has been disturbing news which allege that the quota of women left out of the in the Election law, and we are cautioning against the electoral law that excludes women quotas law to be used for holding of the upcoming elections of the Republic of Somaliland,” said Ms. Nafisa Yusuf Mohamed.

The executive director of Nagaad also warned against the holding of the upcoming elections without the women quota enshrined in a Somaliland electoral bill.

In the Republic of Somaliland, both men and women have the same rights and equal, so we want a law that includes a quotas bill previously approved by the President and his Council of Ministers to be included in the electoral Laws for the holding of the upcoming election.

“We are sending a long and short message to the National Assembly, and we, the women of the Republic of Somaliland are against the holding of any elections without the inclusion of the women quotas”, said Ms. Nafisa Yusuf Mohamed, the executive director of Nagaad.
