Hargeisa- Nagaad Women Umbrella is taking a proactive approach to help ensure the safety of our community.
Nagaad’s Women umbrella organization held a public awareness-raising event on the prevention of COVID 19 at its headquarters meant to educate the public on the spread of the disease.
Among those attending the public awareness-raising event were deputy ministers of health, government officials, politicians, civil societies groups, Hargeisa municipal councilmen and heads of Nagaad regional representatives.
Ms. Asmahan Abdisalaan Hassan, the chairperson of Nagaad Women Umbrella speaking during the launching of the national awareness campaign said, “Today, I would like to announce the launching of the public awareness campaign on the COVID-19 to the most vulnerable people of our community and also conduct awareness-raising sessions with key community leaders in regions of the country.
“I urge my fellow Somalilanders to strictly observe the instructions issued by the health authorities and adherence to these additional extraordinary measures such as not shaking hands, keep away from public gatherings, observe social distancing which are critical factors in preventing COVID-19 infections”, she said.
Nagaad is working closely with local, state and national health care entities to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
Mr. Hassan Ali Abdi (Hassan Shahar), Hargeisa municipal councilman said, “Hotels should enact elevated precautionary operational protocols, including deep-cleaning measures in the restaurant, installing at least 20ltrs handwashing tanks and should issue strict instructions and safety precautions to all the staff working at the hotel to ensure there is no handshaking and physical contact of any manner.
He added that the municipal and health workers shall enforce the directives issued by the national committee on the prevention of the COVID-19.
Dr. Mahdi Osman Abdallahi, the deputy minister of health thanked Nagaad Women Umbrella for taking the initiative for the national awareness campaign on the COVID-19.
