Burao-The Minister of Transport and Road Development, Hon. Abdillahi Abokor Osman cut the tape to a new Vehicle and Safety Inspection Centre in Burao town, Togdheer region jointly owned by Alnafaara and Dhoore Group.
Among the dignitaries attending the opening of the new Vehicle and Safety Inspection centre was the Minister of Transport, officials from the Ministry, regional and district levels administrators, local leader’s, businessmen, intellectuals and leaders from the community.
Mr. Bashe Dhore, one of the co- owners of the Vehicle and Safety Inspection centre said, “Somaliland Ministry of Transport and Road Development previously submitted a tender with the National Tender board for Vehicle and Safety Inspection contract and Alnafara and Dhoore Group were the out of the seven privately owned firms submitting the bids for the contract, in Togdheer region.
He further added, “The equipment we have installed at the centre check your car’s mechanical and performance systems. If your vehicle passes, you are given a one-year vehicle test certificate, while commercial and public transport vehicles will be issued with a six-month vehicle test certificate. A safety inspection is a good way to complement your routine vehicle maintenance.
The governor of Togdheer region, the mayor of Burao, the assistant director of the Road Development Agency, lawmakers, and other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion welcomed the opening of the new Vehicle and Safety Inspection centre and said that the region is in dire need of it.
The officials also commended the Minister of Transport and Road Development, Hon. Abdullahi Abokor and the Ministry of Transport for the initiative to set up vehicle safety inspection centres across the country.
Burao local government councilmen and their counterparts from Hargeisa speaking at the ceremony said the Ministry of Transport initiative to set up vehicle safety inspection centres in the country has many benefits in terms of enhancing road safety and reduction of car accidents.
The Togdheer regional police commander said that road safety police in the region check vehicles for their roadworthiness.
Members of the general public speaking at the venue said that the program that reflects significant progress spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport and Road Development.
