As part of the long-term agreement between Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support Somaliland, Abu Dubai Fund for Development (ADFD) has provided 7000 KWPs of Clean Energy (solar) to Berbera City of Somaliland.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Jama Haji Mohamud Egal yon Tuesday inspected the on-going progress of the implementation of the solar power project in the port city of Berbera.
The 7000KW power project, launched in March 2020 and funded by the Abu Dhabi Development Fund (ADFD), is part of a partnership agreement between Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates, which aims to provide urban communities with access to reliable, safe, and affordable electricity.
Although the project is currently in the process of testing and handover to the ministry, the challenge of infectious COVID 19 has affected the previous schedule, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Abu Dhabi Development Fund have jointly appointed a team to complete the project, monitor it and speed up its completion, this according to a press statement by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
