In a rare function at Gargaar Multispecialty Hospital, Honourable President of the Republic of Somaliland His Excellency Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi greeted ten happy young children who were fortunate to successfully underwent exceptional heart procedures – closure of holes and rectification of defects in their hearts – for the first time in the history of the Republic of Somaliland. The procedure was performed by eminent Indian pediatric cardiologists at Indo Gargaar Metro Cardiac Center (IGMCC) at Gargaar Multispecialty Hospital. The occasion was graced by Mr. Ummer Minister of Health & Minister of Education. Dr. Abdirahman Mahdi, Director of Indo Gargaar, Mr. Muneer Ambassador of the Republic of Somaliland to UAE, Dr. Muhammed Shaloob MD DM, Chief Interventional Cardiologist & Director Cath lab Indo Gargaar Metro Cardiac Center. Cardiologists Dr Mohammed Hassan, Dr. Said Abdillahi A Good, Dr. Abdurahamn Mohammed Nuh (Pediatrician), Dr. Kadigia Ali (Public Health) and Mr. Sayeed, Administrator Gargaar Multispecialty Hospital also attended.
Under the leadership of eminent Indian cardiologist Dr.Muhamed Shaloob, MD DM, a team of pediatric cardiologists from India, Dr. Musthafa Janeel, Paediatric Thoracic Surgeon, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Paediatric Cardiologist, and Dr. Rajagopal, Cardiac Anesthetist, successfully performed ten pediatric cardiac interventions – PDA and ASD device closure, giving a hope for a new healthy life to ten children aged between 1 to 25. All the procedures were done through a keyhole and under mild anesthesia. The programme was also sponsored by the Government of Somaliland.
Indo Gargaar Metro Cardiac Center is a Joint venture of Metromed International Cardiac Center, one of the reputed cardiac centres based in India and Gargaar Hospital, Hargesia. It started functioning from the month of November 2019. Indo Gargaar Metro Cardiac Center, functioning within Gargaar Multispecialty Hospital, has been revolutionizing cardiac care in the horn of Africa by performing procedures like Coronary Angiogram, Coronary Angioplasty and Permanent pacemaker implantation for the first time in the Somali region. This is a giant leap forward for cardiac care in the region.
Since its operations from November 24th, Indo Gargaar Metro Cardiac Center has successfully performed more than 100 interventional heart procedures which included highly complex and high-risk procedures. This marks the bringing of advanced cardiac care, through a team of quality Indian doctors and supportive professionals, to Somali Region, at a reasonable cost. Obviously, our young Somaliland doctors will be trained in Cardiology by the Indian Doctors.
Indo Gargaar Metro Cardiac Center is regularly visited by leading cardiologists from Metromed International Cardiac Center (MICC) which includes their Managing Director and eminent cardiologist Dr. P P Mohamed Musthafa, Medical Director Dr. Muhammed Shaloob, electrophysiologist, Dr. Arun Gopi, Heart failure & transplantation cardiologist Dr. Girish and several other senior doctors.
Patients of Indo Gargaar Multispecialty Hospital currently undergo cardiac surgeries at MICC in India. However, Gargaar Multispecialty Hospital has planned to start a full-fledged cardiac surgical department in their facility very soon.
