The House of Representatives Committee on Economy, Finance and Trade extensively grilled Minister of Finance Dr. Saad Ali Shire, who was accompanied by Deputy Minister Amb. Rhoda Jama Elmi, Director General of the Ministry Mr. Mohamed Abdi Gurhan, and some of the departmental directors, of the ministry on Thursday on the 2022 budget estimates.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance briefed the Committee on the overall economic situation in the country and in particular the forecast for the 2022 budget currently before the House of Representatives, which is 17% more than the previous 2021 budget.
During the meeting, which lasted more than four hours, the committee asked the officials of the Ministry of Finance about the 2022 Budget projections, which is one of the main tasks assigned to the committee, where the Ministry officials have clarified the general questions posed by the lawmakers.
The meeting, which is a part of the budget preparation process, was an ordinary one, with the aim of jointly reviewing the Government’s 2022 budget forecast prepared by the Ministry of Finance, in particular areas that the committee specifically requested to be highlighted.
