The Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, the Guurti, Hon. Suleiman Mohamoud Adan has denied local media reports that alleged his resignation.
While dispelling the unsubstantiated rumours that the Speaker had resigned his post, Hon Suleiman yesterday quipped that if he would have to quit his post, the first he would have conveyed to the information would be the Guurti.
The terse statement was made as the Speaker was chairing the yesterday’s session of the Upper House, Saturday 3rd July.
“This issue you want substantiated now (if it was authentic at all), I would have informed is this House (the Guurti)”, said the Speaker as he was opening the morning session in a short address to the media.
He further noted that “neither the members of the public nor the head of state (nor anyone else for that matter) had elected him to the top post other the members of the Guurti alone”.
This comes after a cross section of the media, and especially, largely the social one, peddled widely the fact that the Speaker had quit his post and that he “was to tell the members of the Guurti on Saturday morning the 3rd July, 2021”.
Almost 60 hours later from the onset of the false story, the Speaker rested the issue hence dispelled it as the rumor it was.
