The Ethiopian government has officially closed its border with Somaliland on Wednesday.
The Ethiopian authority in Togwajale, the border township which links SL with Ethiopia has enforced a directive barring people to cross into Ethiopian soil.
Basic food commodities such as fruit and vegetable and Khat are allowed to pass through the crossing border point.
The government of Ethiopia has deployed military soldiers in Wajale patrolling the movement and arresting the sneakers coming from Somaliland or going into the Ethiopian soil.
The closure of the Ethiopian border with Somaliland is part of the measures enforced all across the country in the fight against the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
Somaliland also shut down the border with Ethiopia in an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.
