25 October 2019—During a port visit in Muscat on Monday, EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA will conduct high-level defence diplomacy discussions with Omani authorities and EU Member States.
The roundtable discussion will give EU NAVFOR Somalia and Oman the occasion to focus on how the new “Cooperation Concept” can help to enhance cooperation between EU NAVFOR Somalia, Oman and other actors in the region. This Cooperation Concept for ATALANTA (COCOA) is a mechanism that EU NAVFOR Somalia has developed to increase synergies with regional states and military actors present in the region.
The Sultanate of Oman has been cooperating with the European Union through collaborative activities with EU NAVFOR Somalia for ten years. Next week Operation ATALANTA’s regular port visits in Muscat will entail strategic meetings, joint responses to pirated ships off the coast of Oman, maritime capacity building and training, information-sharing and various joint exercises and operations.
