Close to ten people were killed in Galmudug Friday following a deadly clash between federal forces and the Sufi group Alhu Sunna Waljamaa.
In Dhusamareb, the headquarters of Galmudug, seven people have been killed among them civilians and the armed groups from the warring sides.
Sources told HOL the fighting led to the closure of the main hospital in the town making it difficult to find emergency medical help for the casualties.
Sources added the fighting in Dhusamareb started after federal forces attacked Inji center which houses Alhu Sunna leaders leading to full-scale clash as both sides called for reinforcements.
Meanwhile, two people died in a separate clash in Guriel following fighting there. According to sources, the moderate Islamist group seized a police station sparking fighting which lasted for an hour. Government forces successfully repulsed the attack later in the day and managed to wrest control of the station.
The fighting happened two days after federal forces arrested several Alhu Sunna officials in Dhusamareb.
The Federal Government struck a deal last July propped by the regional bloc IGAD with Alhu Sunna that saw some of the group’s militias integrated into the national army. The deal also gave Alhu Sunna 20 seats in the Galmudug parliament.
