Mogadishu – President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has appointed a former technical consultant as Somalia’s new prime minister just hours after Somali leaders have reached a deal on a revised election model.
Farmaajo has appointed Mohamed Hussein Robleh as the next Prime Minister.
Roble will replace Hassan Ali Khaire, who was pushed out during an abrupt and controversial vote of no confidence on July 25th.
Roble was last employed as a technical consultant at the International Labor Organization (ILO). He is widely seen as a political novice.
Villa Somalia confirmed the announcement in a statement released to the press on Thursday afternoon. In the statement, it says that Roble was hired based on his knowledge, experience, and ability in developing state-building plans.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has instructed Prime Minister Roble to immediately form a capable government that will lead the country to elections and makes significant efforts to consolidate security gains, rebuild the Armed Forces, and develop. Infrastructure, decentralization of essential services, camera warfare against al-Shabaab, and corruption.
The appointment comes hours after the conclusion of a crucial election conference in Mogadishu. Ostensibly, pushing President Farmaajo to hire a PM – a position that was vacant for nearly two months – as part of an electoral agreement reached by Somali leaders in Mogadishu.
