Officials of the Somaliland Ministry of Transport and Road Development(RDA), held a consultative meeting with officials from six competing companies who are contending for the project consultancy contract for the construction of the road linking the towns of Borama, Fardaha and Lawya-Caddo which is being funded by the African Development Bank.
Director General of the Somaliland Road Development Agency Mr. Ahmed Yusuf Mohamed speaking during the meeting said, “Out of the sixty firms who entered the bids only six have qualified and shall again compete for the final stage of which one of them shall be chosen consultancy contract for the construction of the road linking the towns of Borama, Fardaha and Lawya-Caddo.
This road is a vital for the Republic of Somaliland and its people living in those areas and the horn of Africa region thus why we want to be ready for that competition and we will work with successful company which shall qualify, if God says.
The project manager, who spoke at the event, said the purpose of the proposal documents was to get a better understanding, he said and I would like to welcome you to this forum so that we can discuss and deliberate on the proposal document and I am glad to announce to you that have been shortlisted.
Representatives of the shortlisted companies speaking during the meeting stated it was an opportunity for them to participate in the process and had the chance to get to know each other and they all reckoned the importance for the road in kinking Somaliland with its neighbors (Ethiopia and Djibouti) They noted that the project should be undertaken in consistently and effective manner.
The Director General of the Somaliland Ministry of Transport and Road Development Omar Abdillahi Adan (Omar-Sayid) said, “The road connecting the towns of Borama and Layo-Cadodo would be of great benefit to the people of Somaliland.
He also pointed out that the meeting with the competing consulting firm discussed how to document the content of the competition and how the unit would be, moving on to the next phase for a single company to emerge from the six companies. in this final list.
