The Somaliland government has dismissed assertions made by the chairman of WADDANI Hon Abdirahman Abdullahi Mohamed “Irro” in which he accused the current President of short-circuiting the upcoming parliamentary and local government elections during a press conference held on Tuesday.
Mr. Mahmud Warsame Jama, the Presidential spokesperson speaking to the media during a press conference held at the Presidency termed the remarks made by the opposition leader as futile and lacking merit.
“Firstly the opposition leader based his arguments in regard to the electoral Law No. 20/2001 as consolidated and amended in 2017 which clearly states in Article 13: the eligibility criteria for membership of the Commission which he is aware of but seems to be blind or in denial of facts and the people of Somaliland are also aware of the law,” he said.
He added, “Secondly, Mr. Irro also claimed that President Muse declined to accept the nomination of the opposition “WADDANI” party preferred candidate for the new electoral commission which is again false and I dare him to present any proof either in written or oral form to the public but if he fails to do so, then who will believe him the next he makes such accusations, I leave to the people to judge.
The presidential spokesperson further stated that the government is committed to holding a free and fair election.
