Targeted, abusive and arbitrary arrests multiply and are concentrated in the municipality of Balbala. The latest list of youth arrested in recent days are almost all from the suburbs of Balbala. These are:
Omar Hassan Waberi, Abdi Boo Miguil Mahdi Ali Elmi, Abdourazak Robleh Elmi, Hamza Farah Boo, Boo Eleyeh Farah Yusuf Aden Omar, Kadar Ali Affasseh, Yacin Farah Hassan Radwan Omar Abib Kaltoun Guireh Husayn, Hussein Omar Farah said Gadid, Youssouf Omar Issa Hassan Mouhyadine Boo …
Most are held Nagad while others are scattered in different districts and brigade Balbala. According to information reaching us there are concerns about the health of Kaltoun Husain (kidney problem) and Hussein Omar said Gadid which is said to have been tortured.
The ODDH calls for public authorities to release all those arrested and detained in the districts, brigades, center Nagad and all political prisoners in Gabode.
The ODDH is deeply concerned about the increase in arbitrary arrests of citizens, opponents and human rights defenders.
The ODDH recommends to comply with the constitutional provisions on the protection of citizens, respect for fundamental freedoms, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights as well as ‘the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Act for democracy, dignity and justice.
The President of the ODDH
