Research and Community service Directorate at the University of Hargeisa launched a survey about the state of mobile money in Somaliland. Warsame A. Mohamoud, the director of the research and community service directorate presented the survey to all stakeholders including officials from the Central Bank of Somaliland, Somaliland Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Investment Promotion, ZAAD-Telesom, Edahab-Somtel, and scholars familiar with economics and banking systems.
The President of the University Dr. Mohamoud Yusuf and the Director-general of the Somaliland Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications Eng. Ali Abdillahi who is also a member of the Board of the University opened the session. Eng. Ali emphasized the importance of using mobile money in Somaliland and how mobile money deeply penetrated into business transactions in Somaliland.
The Somaliland Minister of Investment promotion concluded the session and encouraged the University and other academic institutions in Somaliland to do researches and as well write academic papers on the domestic and regional issues. He promised that the Government will consider this survey in executive economical discussions and decisions.
